On Friday evening, Oct. 5, about eighty USA sisters converged from the southern, northern and New England regions for our annual Gathering at Tenafly, NJ.
We were so happy to have four of our Canadian sisters join us: Francine Pare, Anna Gallant, Madeleine Lamy, and Annette Talbot.
After supper and a formal welcome by Donna Driscoll, we had a beautiful celebration of the Transitus, complete with Lady Jacoba’s almond cookies, homemade by Margaret Henry.
Continuing the Cosmology theme of the General Chapter, Paula Gonzalez, SC, gave the first Keynote Presentation on Saturday morning, “Awakening to the Sacred,” followed by reflection time, table discussions, and interaction with the presenter. In the afternoon, Veronica Weygand spoke on “Our Expanding Universe – Implications for Formation.” After the Vigil Mass and supper, there was an optional viewing of an amazing DVD: “Journey of the Universe” by Brian Swimme.
On Sunday morning, Joanne Schatzlein, OSF gave the second Keynote Presentation “Francis and Clare: Mirrors of God’s Goodness for Us Today.” The format was similar to the previous day. PowerPoints prepared by Carla Thomas and Margaret Henry were used for Morning Prayer to complement both days’ presentations. After a closing blessing at noontime on Sunday, followed by dinner, sisters began to depart for their various destinations.
It was wonderful to have so many of our sisters gathered in one place, an opportunity to renew old friendships. Our two speakers were energizing and inspiring. The visiting sisters all had a chance to spend time with the Tenafly residents, including the sisters in the infirmary, who were delighted with the company.
