After a night spent in Ambunti, the journey continued by boat to Yawa Village 1 with 6 other people who willingly offered to walk with the Sisters all the way to Yilui. At Yawa 1 they said goodbye to their new friends, a skipper and his wife plus another skipper and another young man. From there they continued by foot to Yawa Village 2. At the entrance of the village they met a couple who generously offered space in their house to spend the night. Saying ‘Thank you’ didn’t feel enough for the kindness shown.

Elaine’s Short Term Mission to Papua New Guinea, July-August 2012

Elaine recently facilitated a week long gathering in Aitape of professed sisters of the Mother of the Word Governance Circle.  It is hoped that the positive energy generated in the group through daily Gospel faith-sharing together with sessions on moving from the negative dynamics of control, anger and conflict to positive dynamics of care, healing, nonviolence and compassion will help strengthen the wider circle of communion.

Bosset, Diocese of Kiunga in PNG

Some of our Sisters visited in October 2010.  In January 2012, a group of Sisters left Aitape to get installed in Kiunga.  Music added to the photos is from Francine Paré, fmic (Canada).

New Mission in Bosset, diocese of Kiunga, PNG

St. Peter’s Parish in Bosset is located in the Western Province close to the border of Papua New Guinea with Indonesian West Papua. The area is south west of Sandaun Province where Aitape is located.    The village is surrounded by lagoons and not far from the Fly River. All travel is generally by boat. The parish is 14 hours by dinghy from Kiunga, the diocesan headquarters.  The people and environment of the Bossett area are badly affected by the enormous open pit Ok Tedi copper mining company and subject to its pollution.

Three sisters have just opened a new mission there;   Srs. Josephine and Leonie will be teaching in the parish school and Millie will be doing pastoral work.  The diocese of Kiunga has a wonderful pastoral plan implemented by Bishop Gilles Cote, smm, a Canadian Montfort Father.   Sisters, blessings and courage in your new outreach!
